August was another busy month at Whitefish KOA. Walt & Tracy's kids entertained us all until Walt's three left for home in Florida. Hope it was a fun summer for them. All us old folks enjoyed their antics and remembered what it was like to raise teenagers. They are good kids, all! One nice walk (not really a hike) that Norm & I took was to find the mysterious lake for which the Smith Lake Folf course was named. Chassis went too and we took pictures of what we thought was bear "poop". Still no bear sightings and I won't include the picture of the poop in this blog. Norm and I also took a nice horseback ride with Dusty, our wrangler. Original name for a cowboy. He was a nice young man and he took us for a pretty and exciting four hour ride. There were lots of steep climbs and descents and I know I would not want to do a hike there. It was pretty scary on the horse but they seemed to know what to do. My horse, Blaze, wheezes just like me on the climbs up! This was a pricy ride but included a brown bag lunch, most of which we fed the horses. In our travels for the past three years, we have had some nice horseback rides. This was the longest and the most exciting other than taking the stairs in Garden of the Gods. Garden of the Gods was the prettiest, but there were some nice high views in this one too. The pictures are of Andrea and Homer Staves, Walt's parents, and the kids. Also The Smith Lake and us on horseback. The high view was the summit of the highest hill and also the smallest place for three horses to turn around!
