Mt. Oberlin "Hike"

This was a day to remember! We started early, 6:30 AM for the 2 hour drive to the East side of Glacier National Park for the Mt. Oberlin "hike". I call it a "hike" as we found out later that it was really a scramble or mountain climb according to the park rangers. Like fellow hiker and workamper, Jan, says..."never take a hike with a man who ice climbs!" Walt (ice climber) was our fearless leader. I think his only fear was that he would have to carry me both up, and back down. We had a nice group, Walt, Montana Mike & Kaylyn, Mike Darlin' & Jan and Norm & I. Sheri & Don held down the "fort" for all of us. (Wish you were there) Norm & I had the night shift, but I was the slowest one and Pat filled in for me in the office for 2 hours. (Thanks, Pat) The views were spectacular and well worth the climb. Funny, the entire hike was a bit less than 4 miles round trip but the elevation change was around 2000'. Some of that distance was a pretty meadow with a stream and views of mountain goats and a marmot. Some was "scree" which is loose rock which you try to climb through without sliding. Some was boulders that you had to climb up, and then down on the way back. I think the most frightening thing was looking UP to where we were going, and then DOWN to the trail where we had to go to get back to Walt's truck,.... and the beer! Hope you enjoy the pictures!
